Up for sale, a 1997 Fender Artist Series Jimi Hendrix Tribute Stratocaster in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A rare, limited run model made in the USA, this Hendrix model was designed for the right-handed player, with the visually reversed body and headstock evoking how Hendrix oriented his instrument as a left-handed player. With controls on the lower bout, a tremolo arm that screws in from the bass side of the trem block, and a trio of black bobbin Fender American Vintage single coil pickups, this alder-bodied Strat delivers both the feel and tonal properties of a late’60s Fender. The guitar weighs 8lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck features a m. Edium C profile carve with slight shoulders at the nut and a bit more roundness in the higher registers, measuring. 840 deep at the 1st fret and. 935 at the 12th. As maple boards were a special order option from Fender in 1959-69, this Strat is faithful to the special order production technique in that a slab maple cap is added to the maple neck, eschewing the walnut “skunk stripe” otherwise seen on the back of the neck for inserting the truss rod on the majority of maple-necked Strats. The original slender frets are intact with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4 and virtually no wear further up the maple fretboard. The scale length measures 25 1/2″, and the nut is 1 5/8″ in width. On the large CBS-style headstock, the “Fender Stratocaster” text is mirrored, matching the contours of the reversed headstock shape. The original Schaller-made Fender F tuners are intact, turning smoothly and holding pitch well. All of the electronics function as intended, with untouched solder joints, original CTS pots, and Fender black bobbin single coils with staggered alnico magnets. The hardware has plenty of shine save for light patina on the bridge saddles, and the original vibrato arm is intact, engaging the unit for deep expressive warbles and dives. The original pickguard has a “tan line, ” having aged around the placement of Fender’s original sticker that advertised this model (Hendrix sticker also included). Cosmetic wear on the Olympic White gloss finish is limited to j. Ust a touch of pick scuffing across the strum path and a faint finish scratch or two in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. There is also an extra strap button hole on the “bass side” body horn tip. The neck profile finish is a smooth gloss with just a couple small, shallow nicks on the entire profile length. A black tolex Fender hardshell case is included, along with the original Hendrix sticker from the pickguard and faux Fender “Rock Legend” Jimi Hendrix ID card.
