As the photos show, this is a very large panel of’Vineyard’ pattern designed by abstract painter and occasional designer Harold Cohen for Heals. This was designed and produced by Heals in 1959. By way of examples of how important this textile is, there are examples in the V & A collection. Harold Cohen (1 May 1928 – 27 April 2016) was a British-born artist who was noted as the creator of AARON, a computer program designed to produce art autonomously. His work in the intersection of computer artificial intelligence and art attracted a great deal of attention, leading to exhibitions at many important museums, including the Tate Gallery in London, and acquisitions by many others. History – Harold studied at the Slade School 1948-52; he was awarded the Abbey Travelling Scholarship 1952 and had his first one-man exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford in 1951. Made a Fellow in Fine Arts at Nottingham University 1956-9 and spent 1959-61 in the US on a Harkness Commonwealth Fellowship and held an exhibition at the Allan Stone Gallery, New York, 1961. Contributed to the Situation exhibitions in 1960 and 1961 and joined the teaching staff of the Slade School 1962.
