Oil on canvas, framed (not yet shown in photos), approximately 18×36 inches or 50×105 cm. This painting uses a monochrome palette to think about identity, the painting is black and white but individuals rarely are. The person is ambiguous: male/female, vulnerable/confident, questioning/accepting. The dramatic light and unusual canvas size would make this a feature on your wall. I love the vibrancy and viscosity of oil paint. My themes come from the nature around us and from travel and people watching. A 19th century studies graduate, my favourite artists are Van Gogh, Monet, Cezanne, Picasso and Hopper. In my painting I aim to use dramatic light and I’m interested in the indication of form in the mind’s eye. In portraits especially I like to have a sense of narrative, capturing a moment of realisation or decision. Thank you for looking!
